Merve Keskin

Hello, I am Merve Keskin; a geomatics engineer and cartographer with doctoral degrees from UGent (Ghent University) and ITU (Istanbul Technical University) earned through a joint PhD agreement.

I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Geo-social Analytics Lab at the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, PLUS.

My expertise lies in cartography, with a focus on map design, visualization, spatial cognition, behavior, and user testing methods such as eye tracking and EEG for map usability research. Recently, I delved into cartographic interaction and geospatial AI to assist map users during the visual exploration of maps.

I am a vice chair of the International Cartographic Association’s commission on User Experience (UX), and I am involved in the commission on visual analytics and cognitive visualization within the same organization almost since the beginning of my career (2011).

Passionate about interdisciplinary research, I strive to integrate new technologies and methods from various disciplines with cartography through open science . Therefore, I am experienced in collaborating with researchers from different scientific backgrounds , such as urban planning, hydrology, marketing, psychology, computer science, IT, and human computer interaction.
